As a major winter storm moves into the area, the City of Lincolnton is preparing for significant snowfall over the weekend and into the start of next week.
The City of Lincolnton and Lincoln County are
preparing in advance of the Winter Storm expected this weekend. According to
the National Weather Service, Lincolnton and Lincoln County can expect heavy
mixed precipitation with snow and sleet accumulations and a glaze of ice. The City of Lincolnton and Lincoln County may
have between 8-12 inches of snow with some rain, sleet and freezing
temperatures.
Lincolnton and Lincoln County will be under a
Winter Storm Watch from 7pm Saturday until Monday at 12noon. This could be upgraded
to a Winter Storm Warning as conditions develop. We will continue to monitor

In preparation for the storm, Lincoln County
Emergency Management held a briefing with leadership to coordinate response to
the severe weather expected this weekend, and the Lincoln County Emergency
Management Office is on stand-by. City of Lincolnton public work crews will
have snow plows out when accumulation requires clearing the roads. Power
outages are highly possible, and City of Lincolnton electric crews are prepared
to restore power for city residents as quickly and safely as possible based on
weather conditions.
Residents are urged to prepare for snow and
freezing temperatures and to stay home on Sunday as travel could become very
difficult or even impossible. Road conditions could deteriorate as early as Saturday
evening, with highway travel continuing to be impacted through early next week.
