The curbside recycling program may be suspended, but the City will continue to collect and dispose of residential recycling. Residents are encouraged to drop-off single stream, one-bin recycling materials at City Park every Saturday between 8am-4pm. 

The City of Lincolnton continues to explore options for the disposal of recycling materials, and how to best serve our residents since curbside recycling was suspended in June, 2018.

The US recycling market has been glutted with excess recycling materials, especially single-stream, or comingled recyclables, making many community recycling programs cost-prohibitive.

The recycling drop-off center at City Park provides time for the city to explore additional service providers to accept recycling materials and gauge resident interest in household recycling, including the curbside recycling program.

The city has generally had about 25% of residents recycling each week, and this participation rate needs to increase for the program to be cost-effective. Residents also need to recycle the right things; too many loads are contaminated with non-recyclable materials which mean the entire load goes to the landfill instead of being recycled.

During this pilot program, this city will monitor the participation rate and city staff will be on site to assist residents and help ensure that only acceptable recycling materials are dropped off.

City Park is located at 1000 North Aspen Street at the north end of the Rail Trail.
