[ARCHIVED] City Recycling Program Update

Staff hopeful that a new recycling program will be launched soon

Since the City of Lincolnton suspended its curbside recycling pick-up effective June 15, staff has been working diligently on alternatives. The Public Works department is researching multiple options to continue providing cost-effective and efficient recycling services for city residents. The city has identified several potential options to continue providing a recycling program for residents. Currently, these options are being evaluated and analyzed to compare the levels of service that might be included and assess the costs associated with alternate programs.

The Public Works department is optimistic that a new and improved recycling program might be developed in time to present to city council at the August council meeting. It is possible that the City will have a new recycling program in place sometime early this fall. In the meantime, until the city council approves a new recycling program, all curbside recycling services remain suspended and residents are asked to not place any recycling bins at the curb. Recycling materials should be taken to the Lincoln County convenience centers or placed in garbage roll-outs for weekly pick-up.

City of Lincolnton residents are encouraged to utilize the Lincoln County Convenience Sites to continue recycling SORTED recyclables. The Lincoln County Convenience Sites accept the following recycling items:

 •         Corrugated Cardboard

•          Cans (Aluminum & Steel)

•          Aluminum Products

•          Glass (Translucent)

•          Magazines

•          Newspaper

•          Mixed Paper

•          Plastics (#1-#7, Except #6)

•          Residential Motor Oil & Oil Filters

•          Residential Antifreeze

•          White Goods (Appliances)

•          Lead Acid Batteries

•          Electronics

•          Florescent Bulbs

•          Scrap Metal

Lincoln County features seven (7) convenience sites located throughout the County, as well as a recycling center and residential waste drop-off site at the entrance of the landfill. More information and Convenience Site locations are posted on the county website, www.LincolnCounty.org and are available at this link.
